Common Sheet Mask Mistakes

Sheet mask have originated in Korea and is a common practice in the usual Korean citizen’s skin care routine. But it was not till the early 2000s where they started to make a bigger appearance in the rest of the world making sheet masks still relatively new to skin care. Here are 7 common sheet mask mistakes and tips to better them.

Not prepping/washing your face beforehand

Washing your face beforehand removes the top layer of dirt that is built up as you go about your day. Not doing so doesn’t allow the mask to penetrate the skin as deep as it should; you’re just layering the essence on top of dirt.

Not choosing the right face mask

There is a large range of sheet masks so your choices aren’t limited. Masks aren’t always “one mask fits all”. Different masks have different ingredients, bringing different benefits and effects on your skin. Choose the sheet mask that best for your skin type or works towards your targeted  skin problem.

Not putting it on with a bare face

This is a similar problem to not washing your face beforehand. Having a layer of on top of your skin prevents the essence from penetrating deep into your skin. This goes for moisturizer as well! It is important to apply a sheet mask on a bare face with nothing on it.

Not tapping the leftover essence

When you remove your sheet mask from your face, your face may feel sticky. This is the leftover essence the mask has left on your skin. Tapping the leftover essence on your face after you remove the sheet mask encourages the blood flow on the surface of your skin. This allows for your skin to better penetrate your skin. Another way to do this is bending over halfway for about 30 seconds to a minute to have the blood flow to reach your head.

Washing your face afterwards

Like previously mentioned, your face may feel sticky because of the leftover essence from your skin. This is normal! Washing your face afterwards removes the essence. It should be left on your skin to absorb so it can further absorb into your skin. Sheet masks are mainly for moisturizing the skin. This is why it is a great idea to use a sheet before going to bed so you can let the essence get absorbed overnight and wake up moisturized.

Not incorporating a sheet mask into your make-up routine

Using a face mask before applying your makeup helps it go on smoother. This is because your skin is hydrated and not flaky or dry, allowing your skin to hold your makeup better. But, do allow the essence to absorb into your skin first before applying makeup. You don’t want the essence smearing your look as you put it on.

Thinking a sheet mask replaces your whole skin care routine

A sheet mask does not replace your skin care routine, it enhances it. Always remoisturize your skin after washing it. A sheet mask is a way to remoisturize your skin after your existing skin care routine.
